BERLIN 〓 Berliner Philharmoniker Appoints Its First Chinese Musician

Chinese viola player Mei Diyang will join the Berliner Philharmoniker. The result of the audition of the principal viola player. It is the first time in history that a Chinese has joined the Berlin Philharmoniker. He is currently the principal player of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra.

Mei was born in Changsha, Hunan Province, and is 27 years old. He studied at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, and then studied abroad at the University of Music and Drama in Munich. He won the viola section of the 2018 Munich International Music Competition and then joined the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Innsbruck Festival of Early Music（Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik） in Austria has announced a lineup of performances in 2022. 2022 will begin on July 26th and will end on August 28th with the final concert of the Cesti International Vocal Competition during the period. The following three operas will be performed.

The Fritz Kreisler International Violin Competition Vienna from 17 to 25 September 2022

This competition is open to all violinists born after September 25, 1991, who are ready to embark upon an international career. The public rounds are preceded by a pre-selection, based on specific documents and video recordings submitted by the candidates. The names of the jury members will be announced in the website of the competition in January 2022.
The programme of the competition should represent the extraordinary wealth of violin repertoire from the Baroque period to the present. The competition is divided into four rounds: Preselection, Semi-Final and Final I and Gala-Final. Applicants will have freedom in arranging their 9-piece programme beforehand according to the choices and time limits given for each round. The whole programme has to be played from memory except for the duo composition for violin and piano as well as the modern composition from the 20th and 21st century.
Austria’s most important violin competition dates back to the prize that Fritz Kreisler privately donated every year, before 1938, for the best violin student at the Vienna Music Academy.
1979 saw the year that the competition became international, where violinists of all nationalities were able to compete on the centre stage. Yehudi Menuhin was on the jury at this time.
Since 1979, the International Fritz Kreisler Society typically organizes the International Fritz Kreisler Violin Competition every four years at the Vienna Musikverein or the Vienna Konzerthaus.
