The Kiel Institute has tracked $84.2B from 40 countries in financial, humanitarian, and military aid to Ukraine from 24 January to 3 August 2022.


The United States has provided the most military assistance to Ukraine, having provided $16.8B since February 2022. Many NATO allies, such as Germany and Sweden, have reversed past policies against providing offensive military aid in order to support Ukraine. The European Union for the first time in its history supplied lethal arms and has provided €2.5B to Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the State Department also cleared Finland to buy 150 Lockheed Martin-made Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (GMLRS) and related equipment for $635 million. A quality assurance team, transportation services and other logistical support are included in this package.
The U.S. is supplying weapons not only to Ukraine as Russia continues its invasion, but also NATO countries in Europe to shore up the alliances’ eastern flank. In the arms sale announcement, the State Department said the GMLRS will better equip Helsinki’s air and land defense capabilities by increasing the Finnish national stockpile.

Pentagon replacing HIMARS launcher and rocket stocks sent to Ukraine


WASHINGTON ― The U.S. military in recent weeks awarded [Lockheed Martin $179 million to replace and Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems it sent from its own stockpiles to Ukraine according to Pentagon data set to be released on Wednesday
News of the spending, which is part of $3.4 billion in Ukraine-related contracting actions for arms and equipment since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war eight months ago, coincided with Lockheed’s disclosure Tuesday that it’s increasing HIMARS and GMLRS production by nearly 60 percent.

Pentagon Adds 40 Armored Patrol Boats to Latest Ukraine Military Aid Package

The United States will send 40 armored riverine boats to Ukraine as part of the latest assistance package.
The riverine boats are part of a $400 million aid package announced Friday. It’s the second time the U.S. is sending riverine boats to Ukraine as part of ongoing assistance in response to the Russian invasion.
The aid assistance package does not detail the type of riverine boats the U.S. is sending to Ukraine. Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh did not provide details but said that how the riverine boats will be used is up to the Ukrainian forces.
The U.S. previously sent 18 riverine boats in June. Metal Shark sent six of those boats, USNI News previously reported. Six patrol boats are already operating in the Black Sea, Naval News reported.
Also part of the package announced Friday are 45 refurbished T-72B tanks.

While Russia has the more technically capable navy, Ukrainian forces have been able to keep Moscow’s Black Sea fleet largely ineffective with the threats of anti-ship missile attacks. In April, the Ukrainian Navy sunk the Russian Black Sea flagship RTS Moskva (121) after hitting it with a pair of Neptune anti-ship missiles. On Oct. 29, Russian ships operating near the Crimean peninsula were attacked by unmanned surface and aerial drones resulting in suspected damage to the guided-missile frigate RTS Admiral Makarov and another ship.
