Defence Secretary Ben Wallace claimed on Thursday morning that Labour Leader Sir Keir Starmer had supported the deal between the US and the Taliban last year.
Mr Wallace has criticised the deal this week, as the crisis in Afghanistan unfolded.
What was the deal with the Taliban?
The deal - secured by Donald Trump and signed in Doha, Qatar, in February 2020 - committed to the withdrawal of US and allied (including British) troops from Afghanistan by May 2021.
In the same deal were broad obligations on the Taliban to take steps to prevent groups including al-Qaeda from threatening the security of the US and its allies.
After his election, US President Joe Biden continued the plan for withdrawal but with an end date of 31 August.

WASHINGTON/MOSCOW, Dec 7 (Reuters) - President Joe Biden warned Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday that the West would impose "strong economic and other measures" on Russia if it invades Ukraine, while Putin demanded guarantees that NATO would not expand farther eastward.

After Tuesday's call, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said the Biden administration was preparing specific robust responses in the weeks ahead if they were required.

The measures included economic sanctions and other actions such as additional troop deployments to Nato allies in the region and defence equipment for Ukraine.
Mr Sullivan refused to be drawn on what the economic measures might be. But he said Nord Stream 2, a new gas pipeline from Russia to Germany, which is not yet in operation, provided "leverage" for the US and its allies.

Brussels is considering new sanctions on Russia to deter it from invading Ukraine. Germany's new foreign minister, Annalena Baerbock, urged unity but said this should not dilute the strength of the EU's response.
The European Union is discussing a possible new round of economic sanctions on Russia as national foreign ministers gathered in Brussels.
EU envoys have repeated that strong measures would be taken if Russia's military launches a full invasion of Ukraine. Tensions have heightened in recent weeks over Russia's growing military presence near the border with Ukraine.
After the first few hours of talks, diplomatic sources said foreign ministers had already decided to impose sanctions on the Wagner Group, a Russian mercenary firm.
The sanctions — which include a travel ban to the European Union and a freeze on any assets held in the bloc — apply to 8 individuals, the Wagner Group and 3 associated entities.
